Paul Andrew McKinnon
A young man's journey across Australia ends in a bloody mystery when he's found brutally stabbed in a city car park, leaving behind a trail of unanswered questions and a killer who vanished without a trace.
Paul Andrew McKinnon, a 22-year-old former Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) serviceman, was found murdered in a Perth car park on November 14, 1990. Originally from Sydney, McKinnon had been medically discharged from the RAAF in 1989 after suffering an aneurysm and a stroke that left his right arm paralysed. He then embarked on a journey across Australia, eventually arriving in Perth in October 1990, where he stayed with friends in the suburb of Padbury.
On the day of his murder, McKinnon had told friends he was going to the Perth CBD to meet with two men. He was last seen alive at 1:30 pm on the 14th level of the Pier Street car park, seated near an unidentified person. Just 12 minutes later, a security officer discovered his body in the same location. He had been stabbed multiple times.
The investigation into McKinnon's murder has spanned decades, but his killer has never been identified. The case remains unsolved, and a reward of $1,000,000 has been offered for information leading to a conviction. Police are still seeking information about McKinnon's movements on the day of his death and the identity of the person he was seen with shortly before his body was found.
