How It Works

Three simple steps to become part of Australia's largest cold case investigation community. No experience needed—just a passion for justice.

1. Choose Your Case

Browse our growing database of unsolved Australian cases spanning decades. Search by location, era, or case type. Every case has a family waiting for answers.

2. Investigate & Collaborate

Build timelines, analyse evidence, and discuss theories with fellow investigators. Your fresh perspective could be the breakthrough a case needs.

3. Let AI Find Connections

Our AI scans for patterns humans miss—matching witness descriptions, finding timeline gaps, and connecting cases that may be linked. You investigate, AI amplifies.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the platform, AI tools, privacy, and membership.

What is The Sleuth Collective?

The Sleuth Collective is Australia's collaborative cold case investigation platform. We combine community intelligence with AI-powered analysis tools to help citizen investigators explore unsolved Australian cases, submit tips and evidence, and work together to uncover new leads. Every member contributes to a shared mission: bringing answers to families and communities affected by unsolved cases.

How does AI help investigate cold cases?

Our AI analyses case timelines, documents, and evidence to detect patterns, identify gaps, and uncover connections across cases. It can spot details that might otherwise be missed—generating new leads and helping piece together evidence more efficiently. Features include AI case analysis, cross-case pattern detection, suspect profiling, and automated investigation reports, depending on your membership tier.

What is the Investigation Desk?

The Investigation Desk is your personal workspace for organising case research. You can save case notes, bookmark evidence, build timelines, and track your own theories—all in one place. Contributor members get limited access, while Analyst and Founding Member tiers unlock advanced features like relationship mapping and full evidence organisation tools.

How can I suggest a new case for the platform?

Visit the Submit a Case page (also linked in the footer). Provide as much detail as possible—dates, locations, and any relevant sources. Our AI-assisted pipeline generates a structured draft, which is then reviewed by moderators before being published. All submissions must relate to unsolved Australian investigations.

What happens if I find important evidence?

If you discover significant evidence, our community moderators review it carefully. We strongly encourage you to report any credible leads directly to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or your local police, as The Sleuth Collective is a community collaboration platform and does not forward information to law enforcement on your behalf. You can also submit tips anonymously if you prefer.

Is my information secure?

Yes. We use industry-standard encryption to protect your data. All evidence submissions are stored securely, and we never share your personal information with third parties. You have full control over your contributions and can manage your privacy settings at any time.

Can I remain anonymous?

Absolutely. You can contribute anonymously or use a pseudonym. Your real identity is never displayed publicly unless you explicitly choose to share it. We understand the sensitive nature of true crime investigations and fully respect your privacy.

Is there a free membership tier?

Yes! The Community tier is completely free and includes access to all case files, the ability to submit tips and evidence, read and post in case discussion forums, create a watchlist of up to 10 cases, and perform 3 AI analyses per month. It's a great way to explore The Sleuth Collective with no commitment.

What's the difference between Contributor and Analyst tiers?

The main differences are:

  • Discussion Forums: Contributor can create discussion threads; Analyst unlocks private discussion rooms for focused investigation conversations
  • Investigation Desk: Contributor has limited access; Analyst has full advanced access with relationship mapping
  • AI Features: Both have unlimited AI analysis, but Analyst adds cross-case pattern detection, suspect profiling, and investigation reports
  • Collaboration: Contributor supports up to 5 study groups; Analyst supports unlimited groups with up to 20 members each
  • Storage: Contributor allows 500 MB uploads; Analyst allows unlimited uploads
What's included in the Founding Member tier?

The Founding Member tier (A$199 one-time payment) includes:

  • Everything in the Analyst tier
  • Lifetime access — no monthly renewal required
  • Unlimited private discussion rooms
  • Unlimited evidence uploads (5 GB+)
  • API access for integrations
  • Founding Member badge and exclusive recognition
  • Limited to 100 Founding Members total
Can I upgrade, downgrade, or cancel my membership?

Yes — you have full flexibility. You can upgrade at any time and your new features activate immediately with prorated billing. Downgrades take effect at your next billing cycle. You can cancel anytime with no penalties or hidden fees; your access continues until the end of your current billing period. Founding Members have lifetime access and never need to cancel. Your data remains safe regardless of tier changes.
