Jack McLennan
Jack McLennan, a 27-year-old personal trainer and apprentice carpenter from the Sunshine Coast, vanished without a trace on October 4, 2024, during a boys' weekend at Ficks Crossing near Murgon, Queensland. Last seen walking away from the campsite between 8pm and 10pm, his abandoned car and scattered belongings—shoes, hat, wallet—paint a chilling picture of a disappearance that has baffled investigators and devastated his family.
Jack McLennan was a 27-year-old man who grew up on the Sunshine Coast before working as a personal trainer in Kingaroy and apprentice carpenter. On October 4, 2024, during the October long weekend, Jack's life took a mysterious turn that has left his family desperately searching for answers.
In the hours before his disappearance, Jack attended Murgon police station regarding a domestic matter, then visited a bottle shop in town where CCTV captured him giving the attendant a thumbs up. He was with a friend before travelling to Ficks Crossing, a popular fishing spot located approximately 7 kilometres south-west of Murgon.
Jack was last seen between 8pm and 10pm walking away from the Ficks Crossing fishing and camping spot on foot. His phone went offline around this time. His car was found abandoned in Murgon, still full of his personal belongings.
During subsequent searches involving Queensland Police, State Emergency Service volunteers, and specialist teams including dog and dive squads, several of Jack's possessions were recovered: white shoes found 200 metres from his car near Bunya Highway, a dark-coloured hat near Macalister and McLucas streets in Murgon, and his wallet and debit card in various locations.
His parents, Kellie Moody and Ross McLennan, have conducted their own extensive investigation, making enquiries throughout the region. They believe their son may have attended at least one house in Wondai, about 8 kilometres south of Ficks Crossing, after his last confirmed sighting.
The case was escalated when homicide detectives were assigned in late October 2024. In May 2025, the case was referred to the Coroners Court of Queensland, with the deputy state coroner now overseeing the investigation.
Investigative journalist Graeme Crowley launched the "Fick's Crossing 4606" podcast in October 2025 to examine the case, featuring interviews with locals and analysis of the timeline. A petition with over 700 signatures has demanded an independent review of how police handled the investigation.
Jack's girlfriend Carlee Beetham has stated: "Jack wouldn't just disappear or get lost — he is smart and knows his way around. If he was okay or alive, he would have found his way home or to a road. Someone has done something to Jack."
