A night out with friends in a small coastal town ends in a two-year mystery and a murder investigation that remains unsolved to this day.

Annette Caroline Deverell, a 19-year-old woman from Mandurah, Western Australia, vanished after a night out with friends on September 13, 1980. She was last seen alive near the Mandurah Post Office late that night. Her disappearance sparked a massive search and a police investigation that would span decades.

Two years later, in July 1982, her remains were discovered by trail bike riders in a forest area in Pinjarra, about 30 kilometers from where she was last seen. A month after that, her handbag was found two kilometers away from her remains. Despite these discoveries, the identity of her killer and the full circumstances of her death remain unknown.

The case has been the subject of numerous public appeals and a recent podcast series. A $1 million reward is offered for information leading to a conviction. The investigation remains open, and police are still seeking information from the public, particularly about a young man who was seen talking to Annette on the night she disappeared.
